As Christians we testify that our Holy Scriptures are our only rule of faith and the only foundation upon which we can build a true education. A true and faithful communication of the Gospel requires a proper understanding of the Bible-message. Communication is a matter of participation. One of the challenges of participation is to ask the questions to which the Gospel gives the answer. In an attempt to solve my inability to do so, I began to study for a Master degree in Theology.

In bite-sized sections, Newburgh Theological Seminary, invited me to marvel at the Lord’s masterful logic, and guided me to ask the questions to which Christianity provides the answers. For the last two years my contacts with the president of Newburgh Glenn Mollette and my mentor Brent Largent, have been most edifying.

Now that I'm halfway through my first course on Effective Biblical Counseling, the information has given me a fresh insight into how and why people act, but most importantly, is giving me a better understanding of my 15-year old son with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
 
In the week since starting this program, I have almost overnight changed how I respond to him when the OCD and anxiety affects his behavior.  There is no doubt in my mind that having a child with these problems, (1) helps me better help him, (2) gives me an insider's look of living with this condition, and (3) knowing that God can use my degree and personal experience to minister to others.
 
All thanks and praise to the Lord for bringing us together, and giving me the desire to pursue this area of study.  My excitement how God can use me for His glory, is a strong motivator to finish the Master's degree and then jump into the PhD program.
 
I've already come up with ideas for the doctoral dissertation and outlining details of what my vision is for putting this knowledge to use.

 In II KINGS 19:16 the prophet Elijah is told by the LORD to go and anoint his successor, Elisha, who lived in Abel-Meholah.  Abel-Meholah refers to a 'place of rejoicing.'  If I could encourage you to prayerfully and thoughtfully consider Newburgh Theological Seminary & College of the Bible as 'a place'  to further your educational studies, I'd do so 'excitedly!'  As a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Seminary (MRE,'74) and NTS (D.Min.,'06), I am confident you'll find at NTS an educational experience you'll forever appreciate.  I know I have, and I will yet return for additional studies.  Dr. Mollette and his staff offer the student sincere concern, helpful advice, and sound biblical studies for one's life and ministry.  If I can encourage you further in this quest, please feel free to contact me.  (RabRic21@bellsouth.net)

I have to tell you; the two seminars I attended in Bloomington, Illinois this past Thursday and Friday, led by Dr. Riley, were in a word: OUTSTANDING.

Dr. Riley, although encumbered by time restraints, gave us 3 days of material in 3 hours of time per class. I would have had to have read a half dozen books to garner the knowledge he was able to condense and disseminate in such a short time.

He was extremely well prepared, informative, interesting and fun to listen to. I appreciated his excitement and obvious love for the Lord and His work.

Dr. Riley was able to impart precisely what I was hoping to garner from him. He got right into the "nuts and bolts" the mechanics of Church planting and sermon preparation. I left the classes with solid practical information and more importantly...how to apply it.

This was definitely worth the trip and the time. Between Newburgh's program and method of instruction, the Holy Spirits guidance and inspiration, I am getting abundantly more than I ever hoped for. The Lord is blessing me tremendously and I am so excited to be a part of this.
